Confessions From A Personal Trainer: I made a HUGE rookie mistake

True Confession Tuesday:

Where every Tuesday: I confess.

Confession: I made a HUGE rookie mistake at Tough Mudder this weekend.

After a successful first Tough Mudder of the season on Saturday, I head over for the Sunday repeat. I’m at the event putting my number on, look down and realize – I HAVE HOLES IN MY SHORTS.

  • How did this happen?
  • How did I pack the shorts that have huge holes?
  • How many events have I done that include spandex shorts?
  • What am I going to do???

There really was no choice except to run because I had no other shorts. My only other pair was the soaking wet, dirty, muddy pair from the day before.

So, I ran 12 miles of the Tough Mudder with holes in my shorts between my legs rubbing and rubbing. Not exactly the most pleasant. All in all it was a great event, a beautiful day, and fun in the mud with friends.

As I was thinking about how in the world I packed the one pair of shorts that had not ONE, but TWO holes in them, I realized that this happens a lot in life.

I packed in a hurry and I was so confident that I had everything that I needed. I’ve done so many events, I was on autopilot packing my spandex shorts, shirt, socks, sports bra, and shoes. But I did make sure to focus on the big ticket item – the shoes.

Instead of checking my clothing, I simply threw them in the bag. I didn’t even notice until I got to the event. And I hadn’t packed any extra pairs. I have at least 10 pairs of spandex shorts at home – how did I end up with this pair and not pack an extra?

It was easy to figure I was a pro at packing clothing for events. It’s such a simple task.

Have you done this? Not paid enough attention to something because “I’ve done this a million times before?” OR “I know what to do because I’m an expert.” OR “I’m in a hurry and I’ll just throw stuff in a bag.”

It’s easy to get swept up in life or to assume you’ve got it all covered when really taking some extra time to pay attention, could be key.

From my rubbed thighs to you – take a moment to

SLOW DOWN, PAY ATTENTION, AND PACK THE SHORTS WITHOUT THE HOLES.
