True Confession Tuesday: I’m Ready To Put On My Pajamas

Where every Tuesday: I confess.

Confession: I’m ready to put on my pajamas.

I’ve been wearing a lot of “real clothes” lately (aka clothes with zippers and buttons and real shoes).

I’m ready to put on my pajamas.

I’ve been driving all over town, drinking coffee, meeting new people, creating connections, talking, listening, listening, and talking.

I’m ready to put on my pajamas.

I’ve been “ON” and ready. And now I’d like my pajamas.

The really cool thing about running your own business is meeting other really amazing business owners and creating connections, sharing your story, being inspired by them, and drinking a lot of coffee.

But you see – I’m an introvert. An introvert who really likes pajamas.

Susan Cain, the author of the book “Quiet” about introverts sums me up in one quote.

I do have strong social skills and enjoy business meetings, but after awhile, I DO wish I was home in my pajamas.

AND THE HORROR OF SMALL TALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you relate – are you an introvert?

It’s been an interesting see saw between the business owner/going to networking, meeting people side of me and the need to fully recharge in my pajamas. I’ve even fooled some people into thinking I’m an extrovert. That’s funny.

We all need to know where you derive energy. Is it from going out and listening to a band at a restaurant and being around people after a long week?

Is it curled up with a book in your pajamas at home??

Because if you ignore the fundamental part of your personality that dictates how you gain energy – you are going to drain yourself so quickly and lose steam. We live in a world where it’s easy to go, go, go, and then go some more when you’re tired. But we all know how that story ends – wiped out, exhausted, health issues, and more.

So the first step is to know if you’re an introvert or an extrovert. And remember – that does not mean the difference between being shy or not shy. It’s about whether going to a party recharges you or an intimate night with friends and family is what you need.

As you are looking at your week and making plans, remember to carve out the time to boost your energy according to your personality. And don’t deny it if you are an introvert. I promise that we still like people (just not all the time!)

Have a great week.
