Episode 107 – Interview with Ralph Bernstein – Death, Grief and Life

What happens when you suddenly become a widow after your wife of 25 years has a stroke and dies? How do you go on with life when you have 2 boys, a corporate banking career, the house, dogs and an unimaginable amount of grief?  I am so honored to have my client and good friend Ralph Bernstein share with us. He tells his heartbreaking story of the death of his wife, his own personal deep and dark grief and what his life looks like now.

Both Ralph and I agree that we (as a society) don’t talk about death often enough. We don’t share how horribly dark and empty it is and how impossible it seems to come out of that place. Ralph’s life has changed dramatically in the last 7 years and there have been many factors: time, fitness, a new business, life coaching, and being open to the idea of becoming “happy” again.

The Process of Death, Grief, and Life

Nothing about the process was easy. My hope is that you listen to this episode with an open heart because we will all experience loss at some point whether it is expected or unexpected. The bigger message is that at any moment – we have the power to change our lives. Sometimes we are forced to do it by way of death.

Ralph is an incredible man who now runs a dog daycare here in Minneapolis and has truly changed his life. His process of grief is inspiring and I know you will be moved by his story.
