Podcast Episode #59 – Carin Skowronsky – Life Around the World
Would you drop your entire life to travel the world? I think we have all at one point or another thought that we would. But if the opportunity showed up on your doorstep in the form of a program called Remote Year – would you do it?
Carin did. We first met Carin on podcast episode #19 as she was about to embark on a year of working and living abroad. She left her job, sold a ton of possessions, packed up, said goodbye to friends and family and decided to bet on herself.
We also talked about what she was nervous for, what she was excited about and she opened up about how to prep yourself mentally and emotionally for a year abroad. The main focus was about how to live life on your own terms. This does not mean you have to travel the world, but it might.

The program Remote Year brings together a group of people from around the world who will live and travel together. However, each individual is in charge of their own work/income and so this means each person is doing something different for work. While this sounds inspiring and creative, it also sounds terrifying to me. Not only do you live in a new place every month but you are finding work all over the world.
Carin is about halfway through her year. I had been following her journey on her blog, Instagram and Facebook and I was itching to find out what it had really been like.
In this episode we find out what Carin is doing and how she has created amazing opportunities for herself all over the world – such as creating a blog post from the inside of a beer spa. We also talk about so many things including:
- What are some of the highlights?
- What is like changing your living situation every month?
- What did you love about each country so far?
- What was your favorite moment?
- What has been hard?
- What have you done for work?
- How have you changed?
- What are you looking forward to in the second half of your year?
Listen in as Carin and I talk about what it’s really like to live and work with a group of strangers (now friends), how she has found work and clients around the world, how she has grown and changed as an individual and if she will make it back to the Twin Cities in time for us to host the Super Bowl (she’s an 11 year season ticket holder).
I am so inspired by Carin’s courage to live life on her own terms, create her own opportunities and find her place in the world (literally). I hope you will listen in and be inspired and motivated to dig deep and listen to that part of you that wants to do something wild and crazy. It may not be changing up your whole life and living around the world – but what could it be???
