5 Lessons From The Last Decade

Whoa~ How did an entire decade fly by?? I decided to reflect on the last decade and I found 5 lessons that I believe we can all use. I want to start off by saying if you feel overwhelmed, anxious or you cam down with a case of the “shoulds” right now – ME TOO. It’s the new year, new decade and it can feel like the time where you “should” overhaul your whole life.

But what if instead, we all take a moment and reflect on the last decade before moving forward? I found this to be super helpful and it’s a little crazy to me how different life was 10 years ago – 2009/2010. I was 25, almost 26 years old trying to figure out all the things in my life.

In the podcast episode I take you down my memory lane (LISTEN HERE) and share a few stories that created my 5 lessons.

One Foot in Front and Trust Yourself

That’s it. In the last decade I just put one foot in front of the other and trusted myself. From my job, my health, my fitness to quitting my job, starting obstacle course racing and trying new things all the time. It’s easy to quit on things but if you decided to just keep putting one foot forward, in a decade, I bet you will make some progress.

Take Risks

Sounds simple. Of course it isn’t. But it enriches your life, makes you more confident and creates excitement. In 2009 I NEVER IMAGINED I would have my own business and have jumped off a cliff during a 24 hour endurance obstacle course race. Neither of those were anywhere close to my radar but I took the risks.

Find Community

This one is so important. And so very overlooked. I moved to Minnesota knowing 1 person and now I now 100’s if not 1,000’s. I wouldn’t without a few, very intentional things. One was to join a social group a few year after moving here. It was uncomfortable and felt awkward but turned out to be so beneficial. Another one was to join a ninja gym and meet new people after being welcomed into the obstacle course community. These things have opened my life up more than anything.

Ease Up On Your Body Expectations

Uff Da. This one was hard. I am the heaviest I have ever been but the strongest in body and mind. I have released most of my worthiness that was tied to my body and I enjoy finding out what my body can do instead of wanting endlessly to be skinnier, skinnier and waiting and wishing for all my dreams to come true when I’m skinny. This has been way too long of a journey to post here but I elaborate more on the podcast.

Laugh, Have Fun, Travel and Be Spontaneous

Whatever it takes. Create laughter, fun, spontaneity and travel. This may look like game nights with friends, driving to the next town over, going out for dinner on a Wednesday or WHATEVER. It’s so easy to just fall into patterns (and I am so guilty of this) of the same thing day in and day out. Infuse some LIFE into your life.

I could have had over 10 lessons from the last decade but these 5 seemed to sum it up. I’m looking forward to more of this in the next decade but also more growth within my business, more travel, more freedom and more relaxation.

I would love to know from you – what are your 5 lessons from the last decade? Will you share them with me?? EMAIL ME and let me know.
